Assignment for Friday, January 26th

Good Morning!

I am missing you today, but I know you are making me proud and doing your very best for Mrs. Cogan!

1.) Blog Title: Reading/Writing Connection

Today, I want you to pick one book you have read this week, and tell us how the writer introduced the book in the first paragraph or the first couple of pages.

Do NOT copy their words.

Instead, look at their carefully crafted words, try to figure out exactly why they chose to start their book that way, and describe your thoughts in your blog.  Be sure to tell us the title and the author of the book in your blog!

2.) Blog Title: Perseverance

Write a slice of life blog about our STEM project this week.  How did you or someone you worked with have to persevere and overcome a challenge in the project?

When you finish both blogs, you may go back to your SSO and go to Think Through Math!

I will see you Monday!

Have an AWESOME weekend!

Assignment, Friday, January 20th

Good Morning!

1.)  Blog Title: My Dream for The United States of America

Today, the United States of America will have a new president sworn into office.  Your first blog is about your dream for America.
Here is an idea of how you can start:
"My dream for the United States of America is______________. I think we can work towards this dream by __________."

You may write it as a letter or just an expository about what your dream is for our country.

If you decide to write it as a letter, you would address it:
Dear Mr. President,

I look forward to reading your words about your hopes, dreams, and ideas for the USA.

2.)  Finish past blogs!
If you have not finished your Martin Luther King post (or any others from the year), this is your time to get caught up!

3.)Free Write
Finally, you can  compose a free write blog.  You may title it anything you would like.  It can be a slice of your life or anything you would like to share!  I look forward to reading your thoughts!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our class just watched Our Friend Martin.  In this movie, we learned about the kind of man that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was and how he lived his life at a very difficult time in America's history.  I believe Martin Luther King, Jr. had a life worth remembering because he believed everyone was worthy of respect, wanted peace, and most importantly because he taught America how to treat each other.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wanted everyone one to be respected.  He encouraged people to treat each other with the kind of behavior that they wanted themselves.  Even when he was threatened or mistreated, he did not encourage violence.  He wanted e
Dr. King thought the best way to disagree was in love.  He didn't want people fighting.  Dr. King was very vocal about how people should love each other even if they do not agree.

Assignment for Friday, January 13, 2017

Writers, for today's blog, you are going to share your thoughts on why it is important to remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life.  You have become amazing authors, and I look forward to reading your essay!

Mrs. Nabors's Reading Goals -2017

  • a book published this year
  • a book I can finish in a day
  • a book that I have been meaning to read:
Image result for nine, ten book
This book was purchased by one of my students, thank you Leona.  I wanted to read it, and she graciously shared it with me.  Honestly, I let it sit for awhile before picking it up and devouring it.  I enjoyed it, but I would have liked to have had more information about some of the characters and the interactions at the end.  I felt a little dissatisfied at the end of the book.

  • a book that Mrs. Richmond recommends
  • a book I read in school
  • a book that someone else chooses for me (anyone have a suggestion)
  • a book published before I was born
  • a book that was banned at some point
  • a book I previously abandoned
  • a book I own but have never read
  • a book that intimidates me
  • a book I have already read at least once

Blog Assignment for Friday, January 6th.

Good Morning Bloggers!!

Today, you have two blogs to complete!

1.) Slice of Life About the Winter Break!
In this post, you should pick one small moment out of your two week break from school and describe it in such rich detail that you help us visualize your holiday.

Example:
We went shopping.  Then we wrapped the presents.  Finally I played some games with my family.  I love spending time with my family.

Does this sound like a slice of life?   NO!  It is a list of things that I did!  Now, if I picked one of those things, and wrote about just that one...it becomes a slice!!!

Example:
Rushing into the store, I decided I needed to look for the perfect scarf for my sister-in-law.  Kristen is one of my favorite people, and I had to find one that would delight her eyes as she opened the present. Slowly, I pushed my way through Nordstroms to the scarves and hats.
There were thousands of people crowded around this one table, and I knew it must hold something special.  Easing my way between the crazy shoppers, the table came into focus.   It was piled high with amazing textiles. Everyone was grabbing, pushing, and fighting over these precious gifts. Through the chaos, a fluffy, off white, chunky scarf called to me.
As my fingers touched the woolen threads, I knew it was the right one.  In the blink of an eye, I snatched the scarf off of the table and turned to begin my journey to the counter.

Does this sound like a slice of life?  YES!  I took one moment of buying one present and wrote long about it!  That is what I expect you to do!!!

I am looking forward to reading your blog posts!

2.) Reading Goal for 2017!

In this blog, you will write about your reading goals for this year.

Think about these questions to do your blog.  You can even write about a couple of these questions.

  • Is there a series you want to start?
  • Is there a series you want to finish?
  • Is there a series you want to reread?
  • Are there any books that you haven't finished that you want to go back and try again?
  • Did your friends recommend a good book that you want to read?
  • How many books do you want to finish this year?
  • Is there a genre that you haven't read before that you want to read?

Mrs. Nabors' Reading goals:
I have set the goal of reading 50 books this year.  I have also been challenged by a friend to read the following:
  • a book published this year
  • a book I can finish in a day
  • a book that I have been meaning to read
  • a book that Mrs. Richmond recommends
  • a book I read in school
  • a book that someone else chooses for me (anyone have a suggestion)
  • a book published before I was born
  • a book that was banned at some point
  • a book I previously abandoned
  • a book I own but have never read
  • a book that intimidates me
  • a book I have already read at least once
So, I think 2017 is going to be a busy year of reading!  I am looking forward to learning new things and adding more books to our book shelf!

I look forward to reading your post about your reading goals!  Let me know if I can help you find a great book!
